Taylor has still not learned?

After much controversy regarding the intent of the Martin Taylor tackle on Eduardo Da Silva, the Croatian striker insistedthat he bears no grudge and said

F**k it, that’s life in football.
I forgive Martin. It hurt like hell but I’m fine now. I know he didn’t do it on purpose.
I was horrified when I saw how my leg looked at first and wondered how it would all end. But I will be back.

The Birmingham defender was back at training, but boy oh boy, has he learnt his lesson? The picture below suggests not!

Arsenal release statement with update on Eduardo injury

2 comments February 26th, 2008 01:00am admin

The Club can confirm that following the incident during Saturday’s match at Birmingham City, Eduardo has fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg.

He was immediately taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent surgery on Saturday evening. The operation was successful and Eduardo was transferred to a London-based hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier today (Monday 25th February), the Orthopaedic surgeon and Arsenal medical staff assessed the extent of the damage and possible time scale for a full recovery.

All being well, Eduardo will have his leg in plaster and using crutches for the next six to eight weeks. After that time, partial weight-bearing exercises will be scheduled into a slow rehabilitation process.

It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months time and making a full recovery after nine months.

Eduardo will be released from hospital in a few days.

The Arsenal medical team would like to take this opportunity to thank Birmingham City FC for their assistance on the day as well as the surgical and ward staff on S2 at Selly Oak Hospital for their expert medical care.

In addition, and on behalf of Eduardo, the Club would like to thank everyone for their many touching messages of support.

Eduardo - I am determined to overcome injury

Add comment February 26th, 2008 12:59am admin

Eduardo Da Silva

Eduardo has given his account of the terrible events at Birmingham City on Saturday.

The Croatian, 25 on Monday, broke his leg following a challenge from Blues defender Martin Taylor in the third minute of the game at St Andrews. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery that night. The striker has since returned to a London-based hospital for further treatment.

Speaking for the first time after the incident, the summer signing from Dinamo Zagreb ruled himself out of the rest of the season and Euro 2008 in the summer. However, he added that he is ‘determined to overcome this injury’.

“I don’t remember the incident very well and it is not something that I want to see again on television or in the newspapers,” said Eduardo.

“All I remember is that when I fell, I looked down at my foot and it had turned the other way. The rest is just a blank. It was an unfortunate situation but these things can happen in football.

“I am unsure at the moment of the extent of the injury and how long I will be out of action for but I know that I won’t be able to play for Arsenal for the rest of the season or be ready in time for the Euros this summer.

“But I’m not worried about that. My concentration and determination is on making as quick a recovery as possible. I am determined to overcome this injury.

“I would like to thank the medical team here at Arsenal for their efforts as well as the staff at Selly Oak Hospital who carried out the operation on Saturday night. Everyone there made me feel as comfortable as possible.

“I would also like to say how touched I am by the many messages of support I have received and to be surrounded by my loved ones at this time.”

Eduardo Da Silva’s Horrific Leg Break Injury

13 comments February 26th, 2008 12:53am admin

The result may have read Birmingham 2-2 Arsenal after 90minutes of play, however the entire game was overshadowed by the horrific and sickening injury to Eduardo after just 3 minutes into the game.

Taylor tackle on Eduardo

The 24 year old Croatian striker suffered a broken leg after a tackle by Martin Taylor. Referee Mike Dean immediatley called upon Arsenal physio Gary Lewin and the St John’s Ambulance volunteers to attend to the striker and subsequently issued a straight red to Taylor.

Eduardo Injured

Team-mates Cesc Fabregas & Hleb instantly recognized the extent of the injury as all concerned individuals stepped back to let the medical staff intervene.

Eduardo was treated on the field for 7 minutes, which included the need for oxygen support, before being stretchered off and rushed of to hospital in Birmingham.

Both teams did their best to remain focused on the match, but the extent of the injury to fellow team-mate Eduardo and the impact it had on the entire squad was evident.

Emotions were running high, as were displayed by the actions of William Gallas. Upon the final whistle, William Gallas sat still on the field before being called to his feet by Manager Arsene Wenger.

Manager Arsene Wenger also displayed his emotions in a post-match interview in which he stated

”I think this guy should never play football again.” “What is this guy doing on the football pitch?

”I feel the idea has been going around for some time that to stop Arsenal you have to kick Arsenal. That sort of injury was coming for a long time.”

“Many people have got away with too many bad tackles. We’ve escaped a few times but it’s just not acceptable. If that is football it’s better to stop it.

“The worst thing you hear after is that ‘he’s not the kind of guy who usually does that’, but you need to only kill one person one time - it’s enough.”

Commenting upon the injury to Eduardo he added:

”His injury is very bad. It is more than his season over.

Our thoughts are with Eduardo and wish him a speedy recovery.
